Due to the fact that today was a half-day at school, we were able to all get together and start filming some scenes. We began at about 12pm, meeting up at Anya's house. While we waited for the actors to show up, we got to destroy Anya's kitchen and turn it into the full-fledged mess that Jackie and Queenie's house is. Bottles, trash, and paper littered the floor, turning her kitchen unrecognizable. We also did some prep work for the props, turning what used to be a freshly-printed piece of paper into Jackie's important letter. We dipped the paper in tea, crumpled it up, and made up fake addresses to write out on the envelopes. We took a few different exposition shots of the room. Our main plan was to get all of the scenes done for Jack and Queenie's house because we wouldn't be able to remake the set. Once our actors arrived, we got to filming individual scenes. Possibly the hardest part was getting the fight between Queenie and Jackie to look believable. There were many breaks and cuts due to our actors breaking character and taking a moment to giggle. Because there is no animosity between the actors for Queenie and Jackie in real life, Angel had to step in as a director and worked on coaching the actors to make sure the fighting seemed believable. Once we finished getting them fighting, we took a break for dinner and waited for it to get a bit darker out. The scenes of Jackie storming out we filmed three times all the way through, just because we weren't completely sure how we wanted the lighting. Once dark, we started with Anya as the mystery guard. The main scene we had to get was Anya and the guards fighting with Jackie in a car, and the guards going inside the house. A big issue with this was figuring out how to get the sound right once the guards were in the house. We tried a couple different things, playing around with microphones and camera settings. We have a few good takes, but we're going to see if a voiceover in post-production could give us the effect we want. If not, we'll use the best take. We ended up wrapping at about 8pm, with our goals accomplished.
Here is a picture of me as Jackie, and Angel's friend Ben as a bodyguard.
Until next time, Danniella Miller signing off.
